Boat Fishing

Boat fishing is extremeley popular in the UK, with hundreds of wrecks, banks...... the UK produces some fine fish and the advantage of owning a boat of course is that you can find the fish using depth sounders and fish finders, enabling you to fish right on top of them in most cases.

We have all sorts of fish that you can catch from a boat depending on where you are in the UK below is just a few of them:

Cod
Found all over the UK, usually in the winter months
Can be found over wrecks, channels almost anywhere to be honest, You can catch them with pirks, feathers or bait fishing.

Bass
Found all over the UK, Throughout the year
Can be found over wrecks, banks, channels, rough ground, almost anywhere to be honest, You can catch them with spinners, feathers, pirks, live bait (Sandeel is a killer bait for bass live) or other bait fishing.

Plaice
Found all over the UK, usually in the winter months
Harbours are a good place to try for plaice (No pun intended :) They are caught using spoons, ragworm even mackerel has worked for me in the past.

Mackerel
Found all over the UK, usually in the summer months
Can be everywhere and anywhere, You will usually see seagulls feeding on top of them. You can catch them with pirks, feathers (Feather comprise of usually 4-6 hooks with shiny material or feathers wrapped to them and are very effective), spinners or bait fishing.

Wrasse
Found all over the UK
Can be found over wrecks & rocky ground. The best method to catch them is with a running ledger baited with ragworm.

Mullet
Found all over the UK
Found is sheltered areas such as marinas, near moorings... Prepare to be very patient, you catch mullet using bread and size 4 or 6 hooks.

Conger
Found all over the UK
Usually found over wrecks but have been caught in harbours. These fish can reach 180lbs+, Best bait used is whole mackerel on a wire trace!!
